"Herbert Spencer has rightly said that the real purpose of education is not knowledge but action. It is especially true in the case of professional education. At Trinity, we recognize that engineering is all about doing by practical innovative application on top of thorough theoretical knowledge."
Dr. Arun Surendran serves as the Principal and Strategic Director of the Trinity College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. At Trinty College, Dr. Surendran led the establishment of the "Trinity Model" that stresses on engineering being taught with practical applications in mind and students aiming to be job creators rather than job seekers. Under his leadership, Trinity became the first campus to have faculty run companies on campus. The concept of student startup came to India during the time that Dr. Surendran was a BTech student at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Subsequently, while doing his PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the Texas A&M University, he established a startup along with his graduate advisor. Dr. Surendran was awarded the prestigious Eppright Outstanding International Student Award by the university which is the highest honor it confers on a foreign student.
Dr. Surendran also serves as the Operations Advisor of Al Adrak Trading and Contracting Company, Muscat. His diverse interest in the field of entrepreneurship and education can be seen from the fact that he is one of the directors of the Bankers' Training Center and acts as the Chief Mentor for Coin A Day childcare foundation. He is a patron of the Rotary School of Children In Need of Special Care.
He is the co-author of The Startup Habit along with Dr. KC C Nair.
