Dr. Thomas Alexander

The Chairman and Managing Director of Trinity College of Engineering, Dr. Thomas Alexander is an exemplary engineer entrepreneur! Dr. Alexander created Al Adrak Trading and Contracting LLC in Muscat in 1986 after migrating to Oman with his BTech degree in Civil Engineering from MS Ramaiah College, Bangalore. Starting with a single mason, his business skill and vision has developed the company into a billion dollar conglomerate employing nearly 10,000 today. He has been included in Forbes Top 100 list of businessmen in the Middle East. With down to earth attitude and articulate delivery of his business experiences, his regular presence in the Trinity campus is a source of tremendous inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs among the students.

Founder-Promoter, Adrak Ventures (2004 – Present)

Kerala, India

Established in 2004, Adrak Ventures operating out of the Indian state of Kerala promotes various businesses in India including Adrak Hospitality Services that manages hotels and resorts in the state and Greenhunters transport service.

 

Founder – Director, New Rotana (2006 – Present)

New Rotana Trading Company specializes in overseas trading and in construction industry subdivisions like carpentry and aluminum fabrication. New Rotana holds import license that is used to source products from mostly India.

Humanitarian Initiatives

  • As a passionate activist for environmentally responsible development, he initiated the planting of 1.2 million mangrove trees around a private island in Kerala backwaters. This largest private mangrove forest in the country has successfully prevented erosion, illegal lake sand extraction and has become a model for conservation.
  • Two Charitable Trusts that finance orphanages and provide full scholarship for needy students’ higher education.
  • Contributor to the organizing of mass marriage for the financially backward segments of the society. Most recently over 180 couples entered into matrimony in such a ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Regular contributor to Ashraya charitable society that provides refuge to over 800 people and education to several scores of children.
  • When the worst natural disaster in the Sultanate’s history, Super Cyclone Gonu, affected the nation in June 2007, pledged and pressed the entire workforce of Al Adrak to the search, rescue and rebuilding efforts.
  • Patronizes and supports the Society for the Physically Challenged in Oman with men, money and material.
