Mechanical Engineering is the foundation of engineering innovation, combining principles of design, manufacturing, energy, and automation. From advanced machines to sustainable systems, the department prepares students to create efficient, reliable, and innovative mechanical solutions.
About the Program
One of the oldest, largest and diversified of all engineering disciplines. Rated as one of the most “evergreen” branches, students of mechanical engineering can look forward to an exciting and robust study in the field of Thermal, Design, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2011 with an annual intake of 60 students. The Department has a dedicated faculty of highly qualified and experienced members in all streams of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. S. Jimmy Bentex heads the Department, which at present has 11 faculty members.
The Mechanical Engineering Department has well established facilities for carrying out the activities of mechanical engineering. It is equipped to meet the present day technological advances and to meet the industrial requirements matching with the global standards. The department has the state-of the-art laboratories and workshop to meet the demand for practical knowledge by the present day industrial applications. A Holistic blend of both theory and practical ensure that students are ready to face the challenges of the global industrial world outside the campus.

The Mechanical Department is equipped with modern laboratories and facilities to support learning, research, and innovation.

Basic Mechanical Workshop
The Basic Mechanical Workshop introduces students to the fundamental manufacturing processes and hand tools used in engineering practice. Through hands-on exercises in carpentry, smithy, foundry, and fitting, students learn to transform raw materials into finished components while adhering to strict safety protocols and measurement accuracy. This foundation is essential for understanding the physical effort and precision required in mechanical fabrication.

Fluid Mechanics Lab
The Fluid Mechanics Lab provides a platform to study the physical properties of fluids and their behavior under various flow conditions. Students conduct experiments involving flow measurement devices like venturi meters and orifice meters, while also analyzing losses in pipes and the performance of hydraulic machines like turbines and pumps. These practical observations help bridge the gap between theoretical fluid dynamics and real-world applications in irrigation, power generation, and water supply systems.

IC Engine Lab
In the IC Engine Lab, students explore the internal workings and performance characteristics of spark-ignition and compression-ignition engines. By conducting load tests and heat balance sheets on various multi-cylinder and single-cylinder engines, learners analyze parameters such as thermal efficiency, fuel consumption, and emission levels. This exposure is critical for understanding the electromechanical energy conversion that powers modern automotive and industrial sectors.

Production Engineering Lab
The Production Engineering Lab focuses on advanced machining processes and the industrial techniques used to create high-precision mechanical parts. Students gain expertise in operating lathes, milling machines, and shaping tools, while also exploring concepts like tool wear, cutting forces, and surface finish optimization. This lab equips future engineers with the technical skills needed to manage large-scale manufacturing operations and maintain quality standards in a production environment.
